صمّمها المهندسان المعماريان هاينريش راينهاردت وجورج سوسينجوث، وقد صُمّمت على غرار معرض الآلات (Galerie des machines) من معرض باريس العالمي عام ١٨٨٩. مع ذلك، بُني التصميم الخارجي على طراز عصر النهضة الجديد الأكثر صرامة، ويُقال إنه يعود إلى تدخل القيصر فيلهلم الثاني، الذي فضّل مظهرًا فخمًا أشبه بالقلعة على مقترحات فن الآرت نوفو الأصلية. تُثبّت المحطة برجا ساعة بارتفاع 45 مترًا يُحيطان بالمدخل الرئيسي.

• Above-ground Level (Hauptebene / Empfangsgebäude): The main concourse level of the station, featuring a signature high glass vaulted ceiling. There is one entrance on each side, facing the city center/Kirchenallee and City/Glacischaussee respectively.

• Platform Level (Bahnhofshalle / Gleisebene): Located below the concourse level, divided into long-distance/regional train platforms and S-Bahn platforms.
