Paris Montparnasse (French: Gare de Paris-Montparnasse) is one of the seven train departure stations of the French National Railways in Paris, located in the 14th district south of Paris. The station initially only sent trains connecting Paris with Brittany in France and parts of southern Normandy. Since the completion of the French high-speed railway Atlantic line in 1990, the train coverage of Montparnasse has covered almost the entire western part of France, including three main services: high-speed rail, ordinary trains and regional trains. In 2016, more than 53 million passengers were sent at Montparnasse station, ranking fourth in Paris.
Paris Montparnasse is also the closest starting railway station in the city of Paris from the main line of the high-speed railway. The start of the French high-speed railway Atlantic line is only 2.2 km from the Montparnasse station in Paris.
